As many of you know, Google has the ability to make suggestions for search phrases as you type. These suggestions are based on what other people are most commonly searching for with the same combinations of words. So, by starting a question, you can see how many others have finished it. And, this can give interesting insights into what's on people's minds. So I gave it a try.

What People Ask Google When No One is Looking

As many of you know, Google has the ability to make suggestions for search phrases as you type.  These suggestions are based on what other people are most commonly searching for with the same combinations of words.  So, by starting a question, you can see how many others have finished it.  And, this can give interesting insights into what’s on people’s minds.

I based my question beginnings on different ways to group people, such as race, gender, religion, and sexual orientation.  Why?  Because I believe people want to understand themselves and each other, but are afraid to ask certain questions to other humans.  So, they not ask Google instead.  After all, Google won’t judge.  :-)

You’ll see a lot of questionos about stereotypes.  Perhaps I am a glass half full kind of guy, but I would like to think that people explore stereotypes to understand them and to eventually see past them.

Below are the results of my research.  Let me know what you think?

Interesting stuff…I have found humor in Google’s auto-suggestion at times, but never thought to use it to investigate others search habits…nice stuff!!

Sometimes it amuses me when there are funny things based on what I have started typing. But for the most part it is annoying. The pop down box gets in the way and with my mousepad on my laptop sometimes automatically fills in.

These are some great examples. It is always amusing to see what pops up when you start asking a question.

I’m a little uncomfortable with how dominant Google is in internet search and its greed for data.

People seem to have lost sight of the fact that it is not a public service; it’s a privately-owned, American company.

Why do liberal gay American men Google?

Wouldn’t it be funny if this was just phrases Google put in as the most searched for as a practical joke?
